To Keep Her Cowboy

Seth Greely’s troubled childhood catches up to him just when he’s ready to ask Tina Bennett to commit to him for a lifetime.

Seth Greely has spent the past seven years dodging his childhood. As bodyguard and ranch hand to pop music’s sweetheart, it hasn’t been too hard to bury the turmoil he and his siblings lived with. But when he takes up with Tina Bennett, his boss’ niece, threads of heated arguments from behind closed doors surface, and cause him to wonder if he’s the right man for her. Tina swears he is, only he knows firsthand love doesn’t guarantee happy-ever-after. Or, does it?

Born into a wealthy ranching and entertainment family, Tina Bennett is wise beyond her age of twenty, and avoids the spotlight every chance she gets. Though she does sing, she’s content to remain behind the scenes assisting her aunt with the day-to-day operations at Bella Cosmetics. More importantly, she’s found the man she wants for a lifetime. She’s almost certain Seth feels the same about her, until her father interferes and plants a seed of doubt in Seth’s mind, leaving her with the dilemma of how to keep her cowboy.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Seth stormed up the hall to the door leading to the rear parking lot.  Shoulda known the other night something wasn’t right.

“Seth!” Tina called after him. “Seth, wait!”

So you can lie some more? Not a chance. He resumed his pace.

“Don’t make me run after you in these shoes! Please?

An image of the outfit she wore sprang to mind. A red patterned dress hugging her soft curves… a black belt around her tiny waist… stockings… shoes he’d seen her slip off her feet on more than one occasion. Those black heels are high. Show off her legs; a ribbon of warmth tickled his gut.

“Seth!” Breathing hard, she tugged his arm. “Whatever you’re thinking, you’re wrong. My father—”

Didn’t make you hug that guy.” He arced around.

He hugged me!”

“Didn’t look like that from where I was standing.”

“I…” She trembled.

“Look, Tina, we had some fun, but it’s over. I don’t come from money.” He nodded toward the building behind her. “You’re better off with that guy. He can give you—”

“I don’t want him. I want you.” Tears welled in her eyes. “D-d-don’t you understand how you m-make me feel. H-how—”

A ringing in his coat pocket interrupted her. Reaching inside for his cell phone, he answered the call. “What?” he barked, wishing her could believe her.
